Shield
Scarlet is the color traditionally used by Engineer units and denotes the unit's Sapper heritage in Fredericksburg. The castle tower and the firebomb represent the unit's Engineer capabilities. The four flames, pointing to the major geographical directions, emphasize the capacity of the unit to mobilize quickly, if needed, to all points of the globe. The lightning flash suggests the unit's Signal capabilities; the key, with the hexagon-shaped head, signifies the unit's Military Intelligence and Military Police responsibilities. The canton, an allusion to the Confederate flag, honors the unit's campaign participation credits for Confederate service in the Civil War; the fleur-de-lis commemorates World War I and World War II service in Northern Europe and France.
